Mumbai Graffiti: Why so Serious!

Had a super fun-filled trip to Mumbai... And not to mention about the joy of festive season there, it was an experience. Loads and loads of photographs to be shared ;)

DAKU Again...

As always, a graffiti on the wall means I have to stop there. Recently I had another encounter with Daku on Janpath, CP around mid-night. This time on a corrugated iron sheet...

Graffiti in Bhubaneswar

Is our city catching the fever of Graffiti!!! I guess so... This time I got to see some very basic random sprays at a certain isolated part of the town and I think there are artists who can paint the city blue.




I will personally be very happy if someone can give me any information on this and then we should try to get some legal space to show your talent. Hope to hear from someone soon :)
Even I can try to help you to get spray cans, I doubt if they are available there in Bhubaneswar.

Painting the city Blue

Graffiti artists hardly revile their name in public, reason is obvious, still it is considered as a crime of vandalization. Anyways, it is a different story all together.
It was around 11 in the night and I was driving back from NFC (New Friend Colony) to Gurgaon back home, and just before Kalka Jee flyover, I got to see this. The easy Sunday late evening traffic allowed me to push the brakes hard instantly, within seconds I was out with my camera with parking lights of the car on. Thanks to the occasional vehicles with brilliantly bright light, it absolutely was not a task to get a such picture just before mid night ;)

DAKU is quite a famous name among the graffiti artists in the Capital City. I already have framed 3-4 of his work and personally do love it as he writes in Hindi. There also is a big one of his logo there in Hauz-Khas Village, also a small one in-front of Al-Bake, NFC. Hope to frame more of his work sometime soon, let Sun reduce some of his glow first.

Beat the Heat

40+ degrees in the month of June should bring no wrinkles on your forehead. This is the period when Sun always do show it's best but alternatively we do feel our worst.



Last weekend, while roaming around Hauz-Khas Village, I found this lad serving utter coolness with a backdrop of some beautiful graffities. After all a desi and sustainable jugad this is ;)

Wall of Fame

'Wall of Fame', this is what this particular stretch of boundary wall is named among the artists of the region, Painted with amazing art in vibrant colors is enough to draw a big grin on a art-lover's face.
This is the place where I spent my last weekend, in Malviya Nagar, New Delhi.






Thanks to my friend Praveen for driving me around and being patient to bear all my maddening activities on that day. I also got to see the place only on the way travelling to his place sometime back, and since then the place was in my mind.

Hope you are not getting bored with these posts of mine with 'Graffiti Special Week' ;)
And yes, another weekend has started, and this time it is a long one for me, so stay tuned for some more happening things around. Photographs are definitely are not great but holds a story with in, I wish if I could puke gold coins everyday :D

The Art & The Artist

Being seated, stretched and relaxed in the front passenger seat of a friend's car when he was zooming past a busy street with speeding cars and we both being busy with random casual chats, suddenly I literally screamed out of nothing STOP STOP STOP!!!
The big guy was scolding me like anything with beep beep and beep but I hardly was listening to anything but still was screaming to stop the car, seeing all the efforts in vain, my friend decided to take a U turn in the next cut. A happy me then only explained him that I saw someone painting a graffiti on a wall. We actually were driving back from a graffiti hunt mission, and this just was an icing on cake.

An this is how I met Samita, Samita Chatterjee, an artist who paints anything on anything just to blow your head away. On this legal wall somewhere in Malviya Nagar, New Delhi, she was busy playing with her vibrant spray cans and creating mesmerizing piece of art named GRAFFITI.

This was the first time I was meeting a graffiti artist in our country and what could be better seeing an amazing piece of art being taking shape and some random friendly chat with this brilliant artist. Actually, I was dumb streak after vising her web space, filled with many of her scribbles. I could not stop appreciating the artist... Hats Off.






This particular piece of Graffiti is being painted by Samita Chatterjee, Rane Insame & Zine Sgc. I could not meet the other two guys on other day though I promised to. But sometime soon.

Life seems easy when you are not in to it!

I just remembered, I do own this page. I hardly remember when I was here last time to share my random aimless thoughts or some crappy captures through the view finder, but the last post is showing a date tag which is almost a month old... Thanks to the Era of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.

Anyways. Life is pretty similar to a blind curve on a hilly road, You never know in which game you are in to in the moment coming. Work, work and work probably was the only thing I was chanting, clicked many pictures in these 180 days but none delighted my heart like the ones ones I clicked last Sunday. Honestly, 6 months in the capital city and this weekend only was the day when I totally absolutely enjoyed the company of my Camera and Self. After 2 long years, on this Summer evening I was roaming on a particular street of Delhi with Camera in hand and a smile on face, meeting new unknown people, chatting with them and laughing. Some definitely were bit crazy to make the afternoon absolute fun, far away from all the worries of life... Yes, away from so called LIFE.



And yes, stay hooked for some interesting stories from the streets of Delhi :)

Daily Dose: 25 July 2011

Wish if I could scream like this... The reason behind, you are neck deep in work and need to drive real fast to reach at your goal post, at the same time rather than concentrating on the road ahead and focusing on driving... you got a panic attack and blaming that the wheels are just clamped... such a waste ME is!!!

Come on BOY, just try to scream and get out of it... the road ahead seems to be pretty straight.

Graffiti II

If you remember the last post on Graffities, you must know the history and origin of it.

I always liked this form of art... though mostly not, here the UK government in particular. Here this is a crime like many other places of the world. Here government erases all the arts which are mostly found at under passes or abandoned places and even uses a special kind of paint so that those surfaces can not be vandalized again... But there in many European countries and in US it is quite popular and even dedicated streets for graffiti.
Still there are some brilliant art do exist, I think even the officials must feel bad to spit on the talent....

Graffiti

Graffiti are the painted or scratched letters or paintings on the walls. Or you can say, these are the abstract wall paintings. Spray paints and markers are the modern day tools for this art. But it is more considered as vandalism rather than art. In my personal opinion, it is another form of art and creativity.

The history of graffiti is quite old. The earliest form is around 30,000 year old and found in the form of pre-historic cave paintings. And the first known modern style graffiti is believed to be an advertisement for prostitution in an ancient Greek city. But the urban form of graffiti came from New York city during the late 1960's and it started with tagging names on the subway trains.

Brazil has a significant tradition in graffiti art in the current scenario though the vibe has spread all over the world.
