'Ratha' means Chariot or Car and 'Yatra' means Festival. 'Ratha Yatra' or 'Car Festival' is one of the very important festivals celebrated by Hindus, originated from Lord Jagannath Temple, Puri, Orissa but celebrated all over the world. On this auspicious day, only once in a year, deities Lord Jagannath, Lord Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra come out of the Temple and travel by huge traditional chariots being pulled by people. The procession goes to Lord's aunt's Temple where they stay for 9 days. On the 10th day deities return to their temple in respective chariots.
Non Hindus are not allowed inside the Jagannath Temple, it is believed, once in a year Lord comes out to see his devotees who could not get into the temple.
