Hare Krishna

On the occasion of 'Janmashtami', may Lord Krishna keep you safe and sound.
'Janmashtami' is celebrated as birth day of 'Lord Krishna' as a very famous Hindu festival all around the world. Lord Krishna is the most popular avatar or incarnation of Lord Vishnu among Hindus. Epic stories say, Krishna was born in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh some 5000 years ago in the cosmic phase of 'Dwapar Yuga'. Hindus celebrate the birth of their beloved God with fast and recitation of his glory.

Happy DIWALI

Wish you all a very happy DIWALI and a great year ahead.
DIWALI: Diwali or Deepavali is the festival of light or festival of joy celebrated all over India with great happiness during the month of October/November. According to mythology, this is the celebration of joy as Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after his 14 years of exile, from the epics of Ramayana. Another important ritual is to seek the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. This festival is never complete without Lighting diyas(candles), Fireworks and exchange of gifts.
PS: I'm just missing the fun of the festive season and India.

Happy Dussehra :)
Wish you all a very happy Dussehra....

Dussehra/Durga Puja/Navratra
One of the most important Hindu festival celebrated with grand joy and happiness throughout India (mostly in the Eastern part) is Dussehra. This is the celebration of VICTORY of GOOD over EVIL. The 10 day long celebration and worship of Goddess Durga starts from Navratri and ends on Dussehra day, also known as Vijaya Dashami. According to mythology Dussehra symbolizes the triumph of Goddess Durga over Demon Mahisasura and also the triumph of Lord Rama over Demon Ravana. So this festival is to worship the POWER and Victory of Good.
The ritual of burning effigies of Ravana and his brothers, Kumbhakarna and Meghanada, indicates to follow the path of goodness and truth. This is one of the popular event throughout the country on the Dussehra day. Larger than life-size effigies were burnt with the display of fireworks.
This also marks the end of scorching Summer and the welcome of Winter.
This year Dussehra is on 17th October (2010).
PS: Thanks to my student life, I forgot that it's festive season there back home. Now 'm missing India :(

'Jama Masjid' (The Antique Series)
After a long time I managed to visit 'Jama Masjid' again. And this time it was quite a leisure visit in the afternoon and I really spent a good quality time there.
And this time managed to climb on one of the minarets of the Mosque and the view of whole Delhi from there was spectacular.

Happy Dussehra
I'm wishing you all after Dussehra.... :(
Due to bad health i need to stay at home during this festive season. Managed to get the blessings of the Goddess on Maha Navami at our Society here in Kousambhi. There was a good gathering of Oriya & Bengali people here. After getting the blessings i really felt better :)
And if I remember I managed to take my camera out after a long time, say about a month.
Jaa Devi Sarvabhuteshu....

Though I was thinking that Delhites don't celebrate this festival that much, but today's news paper is saying that there are 300+ Durga Idols are immersed here in River Yamuna. Quite a fair number I think. And the article was mainly on spreading Pollution with immersing Idols and flowers and things used for the Puja/Worship.
Another thing I missed is the famous Ram Leela at Old Delhi/Delhi 6. Had a special interest to watch Ramleela at Purani Delhi as missed the same chance last year as I was on move, anyways there is always a next time :)
